Forest, Background for about page for Doctor Robert Denkin, Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist

My Story

Dr. Robert Denkin is an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Prior to embarking on a career in psychology, he enjoyed modest success as a baseball player. After a run as the four-year starting shortstop and two-year captain of his college baseball team, he would go on to earn a professional contract as a player and coach for two seasons on a baseball team in Europe. He had one more brief stint as a graduate assistant coach on the Fairfield University baseball team while he earned a master’s degree before he decided to dedicate himself full-time to the field of psychology.

Dr. Denkin’s love for sports and love for the outdoors never faded. His academic and career pursuits took him to Northern California, where he lived for 11 years. Taking full advantage of the more than hospitable elements, while employed as a senior psychologist at Folsom State Prison just outside of Sacramento, CA, he became an avid golfer and hiker. When he wasn’t working on his golf game, which peaked at a 3 handicap, he took to backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains; enjoying the wonder and serenity of the majestic peaks.

In 2010, Dr. Denkin returned to his roots in Connecticut, where he would soon meet the love of his life, Nicole, and open a private practice in his childhood hometown of New Canaan. All the while he embarked on a 10-year career as a supervising psychologist at the Connecticut Veteran's Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University's Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Denkin feels very fortunate to love his work as a psychologist, which has always been driven by his passion to live life to the fullest and to help others. He believes that his background as an athlete and his love for the outdoors has had a strong influence on his work as he is committed to helping people strive to be their very best and to attain all that they desire in life.

To know Dr. Denkin, is to know of his devotion to his family. Always a believer in finding a healthy work-life balance, he values his time off, and spends most of it at home with his wife and two daughters.
